This page outlines my research performance and accomplishments in my role as a full-time lecturer in Information and Communication Technology at Macquarie University’s Department of Education.

  • Paper “A discourse analysis of teaching computing online” accepted to the journal Computer Science Education.

  • Two papers were submitted to the Innovation and Technology in Computer Science Education (ITiCSE09) conference (and although these were not accepted on the grounds of reporting on such an early stage of the respective projects, they form a basis for further development and resubmission):

  • Paper “A multimodal discourse analysis of teaching and learning in a web-conferencing environment” accepted to the journal Computers and Education.
  • Second author on the paper ”Borderless supervision in higher degree research: consolidating international pedagogies and web conferencing technologies” along with Meeri Hellstén, presented at LEARN09 in Madrid.
  • Led the Department’s ARC Discovery grant application: “Reconceptualising pedagogical design in a context of changing information and communication technologies usage” (rejected).
  • Part of a seven member team that has received an Australian Learning and Teaching Council grant for the project: “A national discipline-specific professional development programme for lecturers and tutors in the mathematical sciences”.
  • Participating in a collaborative ALTC project with Dr Neil Harrison investigating how to help Teacher Education students to integrate critical thinking on Indigenous Perspectives using Interactive Whiteboards.
  • Participating in a collaborative research project with Tim Kyng from the Actuarial Studies Department in the Faculty of Business and Economics relating to the impact and utility of using web-conferencing to facilitate the learning of actuarial and investment concepts.
  • Participating with a collaborative research project with the ICT Innovation Centre to investigate the educational outcomes of having students as designers using LAMS (methodology and data collection mechanisms designed, implementation to occur commencing this month).
  • Participating in a collaborative research project investigating the use of web-conferencing with Dr Damian Maher of UTS (ethics and funding approval granted, data collected, analysis being conducted).
  • Submitted the New Staff Grant “An investigation of the effect of Learning Management System innovations on tertiary students’ learning” (unsuccessful)
  • Have composed funding proposal documents for collaborative research and development projects with Panasonic and schools from the Hills District of Sydney (decisions on these still pending).
  • Winner of the 2009 Faculty of Human Sciences award for greatest publication output by an Early Career Researcher.
  • Faculty of Human Sciences award for greatest grant income by an Early Career Researcher.
